The 16th annual Brantford Kinsmen Ribfest is set to return to Mohawk Park from Friday, Aug. 7 to Sunday, Aug. 9, promising three days of food, music and family activities geared at residents and visitors across the region.
What to expect at the festival
Organizers say the festival will host a mix of professional rib teams and local favourites alongside a range of classic fair foods, vendor stalls and a dedicated children’s area.

Jeff Harding, entertainment coordinator for the Brantford Kinsmen Ribfest, said attendees can expect a full weekend of "good food, great music, and a whole lot of family fun." Returning ribbers include hometown favourites Crazy Canuck Smokerhouse, Gator BBQ — described as being with the festival from the beginning — and Jack the Ribber, which joined last year.
Two new rib teams will join the lineup this year: Oak and Barrel and Boss Hog BBQ. Rib teams will compete for a slate of awards, including best ribs, best chicken, best sauce, best pig-rig and the people’s choice prize.
Live, on-stage judging added
For 2026, the festival is introducing live judging. Traditionally held behind the scenes, judging will now take place on the main stage at approximately 1 p.m. on Sunday, allowing the public to observe and hear from judges as they taste and assess entries.
"We have a bit of a ‘celebrity judge’ too. His name is Mike Noack and he’s a well-known foodie who’s involved with social media groups like Wings in the Hammer and Burgers in the Hammer," Harding said. "He’s got all sorts of opinions on barbecue so I thought it would be interesting and fun to bring him out on stage."
Adding live judging aims to make the competition more engaging for attendees and to spotlight the skill and presentation that go into professional rib competitions.
Entertainment schedule and community atmosphere
The festival opens officially on Friday at 5 p.m. with opening ceremonies followed by live music. Route 6 is scheduled to perform at 6 p.m., and the night will be capped by headliner Jack Sith at 8:30 p.m. Saturday’s gates open at 11 a.m., with entertainment beginning at 1 p.m.; organizers say a full schedule of performing acts will be available closer to the event.
Beyond the ribs and music, the festival’s beer and cooler garden and vendor marketplace are designed to offer a communal space for friends and families. The kids zone will include Air Bounce inflatable attractions, allowing parents to enjoy entertainment while children play on-site.
