Hong Kong sales outfit Moebius Entertainment has acquired worldwide sales and festival representation for Michelle Zhou’s debut feature Big Little Things, the company announced as the film prepares to bow in the Horizons strand of the 83rd Venice Film Festival.
Festival push and sales strategy
The Hong Kong–U.S. co‑production follows a festival-minded trajectory: after receiving the Activator Market Potential Award at the 2025 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion in Taipei, the film secured a berth in Venice’s Horizons section and has now placed its international commercial and festival planning in Moebius’s hands.
The narrative centres on a woman who returns to her native Harbin following years in the United States and finds herself caught between a committed relationship and familial expectations. Zhou’s screenplay interrogates questions of identity, belonging and the compromises that arise when personal truth clashes with inherited duty — themes that the sales company says will travel beyond regional audiences.
"Big Little Things represents the arrival of a distinctive new filmmaking voice," said Fred Tsui, founder and CEO of Moebius Entertainment. "Michelle Zhou captures the quiet but profound conflicts that define many lives today – the tension between personal truth and the roles we inherit."
Context and industry ties
Moebius’s move places Big Little Things on an international commercial path at a formative moment in the film’s life cycle, coupling festival exposure at Venice with a global sales strategy designed to secure distribution and additional festival dates. The company also announced it had taken worldwide sales rights outside Taiwan for Taiwanese director Fiona Roan Feng‑i’s follow‑up feature Happily Ever After, which is slated for the Special Presentations lineup at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The Roan deal reunites Moebius with producer Clifford Miu and recalls the company’s prior role in the international release for Roan’s debut American Girl, which travelled the festival circuit after its Tokyo premiere and ultimately found a global streaming home.

For emerging filmmakers, securing a sales partner ahead of a major festival premiere can be decisive: it shapes the route to buyers, potential distributors and subsequent festival bookings. Moebius’s endorsement signals confidence in Zhou’s film both artistically and commercially, and sets expectations that the title will be marketed to programmers and distributors across territories following its Venice unveiling.
As the film embarks on its festival run, attention will centre on how audiences and buyers respond to its intimate exploration of cross‑cultural tensions and the ways in which personal relationships and family duty intersect — a storytelling focus that the sales company believes will resonate internationally.
